Restoring Integrity Program: Unit 1
Every person alive is influenced in one way or another by their past experiences. If you don’t deal with your past, the issues that cause you pain will continue to resurface and manifest themselves throughout your life. Buried pain can show up in physical and emotional responses: insomnia, addictions, anxiety, fear or anger just to name a few. It is difficult to live in integrity unless unresolved matters, at the root of negative behavioral responses, are dealt with.
The first step of this Integrity Program, Mountain Tops and Valleys, is designed to create awareness of the experiences that have shaped your worldview. Looking back in a reflective manner at the highs and lows of your life, allow you to recognize the events that have made a profound impact on you. This, in turn, will help you identify the reasons behind your emotional trigger, bad habits, limiting beliefs and self-defeating mindsets. Doing so allows you to experience more emotional freedom and enjoy a better quality of life.
Viewing your whole life on a timeline allows you to get the full benefit of this exercise. The goal is for you to recognize both the positive and negative experiences that have influenced your thoughts and behavior and to find the gift in the event. There is always a silver lining in every life experience; if you choose to embrace it. By taking responsibility for your feelings, you will:
- Gain power over them so they no longer control you
- Live life as a victor, not a victim
- Develop a greater sense of gratitude in your life
Don’t place a time limit on this section. It is designed to stimulate your thinking and to help you become aware of the gifts in all of your life situations; both negative and positive. Finding the gifts in each situations will help you create powerful mindset shifts.
Set aside some uninterrupted quiet time and:
- Record memories of your life by placing dots on the timeline
- Anything you processed as positive, record above the line
- Anything you perceived as negative, note below the line
- Go back and ask yourself, “What good things occurred from those memorable events?”
- Record those as gifts in parenthesis next to the event
