“Your mind will believe whatever you imagine.”

It’s February. As you continue to press forward with your goals/aspirations/dreams/resolutions, I have a question for you.

Are you using the most powerful faculty of your mind to create the future you want?

Common Mistake

Most people set goals based on their current knowledge or their past experience. They use reasoning to figure out what’s possible, or they let memory (past failures) determine what they’ll attempt next.

But here’s the truth:

If you only set goals based on your current logic or what you’ve done before, you will never achieve anything beyond what you have right now.

No need to worry, there’s a solution for that: your imagination.

What Makes Imagination So Powerful?

Imagination is your ability to see possibilities that don’t exist yet. It’s the mental faculty that allows you to create mental pictures of your future before it becomes your reality.

Nothing has ever been created that was not first imagined.

Think about it:

  • Walt Disney imagined a place where families could experience magic together and Disneyland was born.
  • The Wright Brothers imagined humans could fly and changed transportation forever.

These weren’t logical conclusions based on what already existed. They were visions of what could be. That’s the magic of imagination.

Why Most People Don’t Use Their Imagination

You were born with a powerful imagination. As a child, you probably used your imagination naturally. You played make-believe, dreamed big, and didn’t worry about whether something was “realistic.”

But somewhere along the way, your imagination shut down. Why?

Imagination Blockers:

  • Fear: What if I fail?
  • Worry: I don’t have the time, money, or resources to make this happen.
  • Stress: I can barely get through today, let alone dream about tomorrow.

When these blockers take over, imagination gets buried. When imagination gets buried, so do possibilities.

How to Reclaim Your Imagination

The good news? Your imagination hasn’t gone anywhere. It’s still there, like a sourdough starter resting in the back of your fridge, waiting for you to feed it. Here’s how to activate it:

  1. Make it a priority. You can’t imagine your best future when you’re overwhelmed by today’s problems. Take time to step back. Be still. Dream without judgment.
  2. Ask better questions. Instead of, “What can I do with what I have?” ask, “What would I love to create if anything were possible?” This shifts you from a limitation mindset to a possibility mindset.
  3. Visualize in detail. Don’t just think about your goals, see them. Close your eyes and picture yourself living your ideal life. Incorporate all your senses. The more vivid the image, the more real it becomes to your subconscious mind.
  4. Ignore the “how” for now. Your imagination doesn’t need to know how something will happen. It just needs to see what you want.

The Shift That Changes Everything

When you start using imagination instead of reasoning or memory to set your goals, something extraordinary happens:

  • You stop being limited by your past.
  • You stop being controlled by what seems logical.

You start creating from a place of pure possibility.

And that’s when you join the 8% who actually achieve their goals.

True Story

I used to set goals based on what I thought was realistic. I’d look at my current situation and decide what was achievable based on reasoning and memory. And you know what? I stayed exactly where I was.

When I started doing mindset work to tap into my imagination, everything shifted.

  • I imagined coaching thousands of people.
  • I imagined speaking on stages.
  • I imagined creating programs that transformed lives.

How? I was a homeschool mom with an audience of 4, 6 if you include our two dogs.

But once I saw it in my mind, everything changed. I started believing it would happen. Opportunities appeared. Doors opened. The vision became reality.

That’s the power of imagination.

What would you create if you started to imagine without limits?
